Physiotherapy in Kingston, Ontario

Personalized, evidence-based physiotherapy to help you move better, recover faster, and stay out of pain. Our registered physiotherapists work with you — not just your injury.

What Is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a regulated health profession focused on restoring and maintaining physical function and mobility. Registered physiotherapists (RPs) are university-trained clinicians who assess the root cause of pain or movement problems — not just the symptoms — and build a treatment plan designed to get you functioning well again.

At C.S. Physiotherapy & Wellness Centre, every assessment starts with a genuine conversation. We want to understand how your condition is affecting your day-to-day life, what your goals are, and what you've already tried. From there, we put together a practical, realistic plan — combining hands-on treatment with education and progressive exercise.

What Conditions Do We Treat?

Our physiotherapists work with a broad range of conditions. Whether you're dealing with something acute — like a sprain from last weekend's game — or something that's been bothering you for years, we can help.

  • Neck and back pain (acute and chronic)
  • Disc injuries and sciatica
  • Shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand injuries
  • Hip, knee, ankle, and foot conditions
  • Sports and athletic injuries
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation (joint replacements, ligament repairs, etc.)
  • Workplace injuries (WSIB)
  • Motor vehicle accident injuries (MVA)
  • Concussion rehabilitation
  • Arthritis and degenerative joint conditions
  • Postural pain and repetitive strain injuries
  • Neurological conditions affecting movement and balance

Why You Might Need Physiotherapy

Pain is the most obvious reason people seek out a physiotherapist — but it's far from the only one. You might come to us because you've noticed a gradual loss of strength or range of motion, because a previous injury never quite healed the way it should have, or because you want to return to a sport or activity without risking re-injury.

Physiotherapy is also a smart first step before surgery for many conditions. Building strength and mobility beforehand can significantly improve post-operative outcomes and shorten recovery time — a concept called prehabilitation.

No referral needed. In Ontario, you can book directly with a physiotherapist without a doctor's referral. We accept extended health insurance, WSIB, MVA, and Veterans Affairs Canada coverage — call us if you have questions about your plan.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your initial appointment runs about an hour. We spend the first part on a thorough assessment — reviewing your history, understanding how the problem started, and examining your movement, strength, and any relevant tests specific to your condition.

From there, you'll typically receive some hands-on treatment in that same appointment. We don't believe in making you wait a week before anything happens. Your physiotherapist will also walk you through what's going on in plain language, and give you a realistic picture of what treatment will involve and how long recovery is likely to take.

Our Hands-On Techniques

We draw on a wide toolkit depending on what your body needs, including:

  • Soft tissue release and myofascial therapy
  • Joint mobilizations and manipulations
  • Therapeutic taping (including Kinesio and rigid tape)
  • Therapeutic cupping (TDRM)
  • Acupuncture and dry needling
  • BioFlex laser therapy
  • Electrical stimulation (TENS, IFC)
  • Ultrasound therapy
  • Cervical traction
  • Mulligan techniques

Exercise and Home Programs

Hands-on treatment gets things moving — but what you do between sessions matters just as much. We design progressive therapeutic exercise programs tailored to your body and your goals, and make sure you understand the why behind each exercise so you can perform them safely and confidently at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist in Ontario?

No. Physiotherapy is a direct-access profession in Ontario — you can book an appointment without a referral from your doctor. Some insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement, so it's worth checking your extended health benefits policy.

Is physiotherapy covered by insurance?

Most extended health insurance plans cover physiotherapy. We also accept WSIB, motor vehicle accident (MVA) insurance, and Veterans Affairs Canada. Physiotherapy is not covered by OHIP for most adults, but private pay options are available if you don't have benefits.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the nature and severity of your condition. An acute muscle strain might resolve in 4–6 sessions; a post-surgical recovery could take several months. Your physiotherapist will give you a realistic timeline at your first assessment — and revisit it as you progress.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Comfortable, loose clothing that allows access to the area being treated is ideal. For lower limb or hip conditions, shorts are helpful. For shoulder or neck issues, a tank top or loose short-sleeved shirt works well.

Can physiotherapy help with chronic pain?

Yes. Physiotherapy is one of the most effective evidence-based approaches for chronic pain. Treatment focuses on improving physical function, building resilience in the affected area, and addressing contributing factors like posture, movement patterns, and activity levels.
